The Centre has agreed to give about Rs 3,000 crore to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Additional money will be raised from the market. Senior government officials told the Hindustan Times that Delhi will get an additional Rs 500 crore each year from central funds for the games.

Officials say the initial plan is to build 15-20 flyovers and subways for the games. "The idea is that the distance between the games village near the Nizamuddin bridge and the sports venues should not take more than 5-10 minutes to cover and it should be signal-free," an official said.

Officials say nearly Rs 1,000 crore will be required to build the games village for about 10,000 sportsmen and officials. After the games, the village will be used as a hostel for Delhi University students
